Butterfly and Habitat Garden

The construction of the new butterfly and habitat garden.  Summer 2010 with only three interns, one foreman, and a lot of sweat.  The temperatures had been relatively mild all summer, until we started the really hard work.  Clearing the space, building a concrete planter, shoveling out the chicken coop to fill said planters, moving a huge pile of straw bales and then getting dressed up and pretty for the big open house!  We broke ground August 8 and finished planting August 28 – so just under three weeks…a huge accomplishment for the whole team, all 5 of us!

Since we installed the bones and initial plants in August of 2010, we have continued to add to the garden.  The City of Long Beach donated concrete benches from a park that was being redone,  an Eagle Scout project installed two massive shade arbors, and we added a few pieces of art that was created by our Boeing volunteers at the big Global day of service, July 14, 2012.
